Research

Why are the processes that shape the surface geochemistry of rocky planets, and how have those processes changed over time? That is the overarching question I work to address throughout my research.

I leverage my data science/machine learning background and experience with spectroscopic data sets to study the surface chemistry of rocky planets. To date, I have focused on in-situ LIBS and XRF deployed on Martian/Lunar landers and rovers, but I am excited to work with new remote sensing datasets in my postdoc, namely MERTIS thermal infrared spectra from Mercury.

Below is a list of all of my papers and abstracts. Feel free to check out my Google Scholar if you want the most up to date list. If you cannot access any of these articles through your institution please send me an email (hmanelsk@purdue.edu), I would be happy to share them with you!
